Application Guidelines
Surface Preparation
- New Steel: Blast to Sa2.5 standard. If temporary protection is required, apply appropriate shop primer. Before final spraying, thoroughly clean damaged shop primer and contaminants accumulated during storage and manufacturing. For blast-cleaned substrates, use specified epoxy paint.
- Maintenance: Remove grease with appropriate cleaning agents. Wash off salts and other contaminants with (high-pressure) fresh water.
- As Transition Coat: Blast or use power tools to remove all rust and loose materials. Grind edges smooth.
Mixing and Dilution
WH-ET172 is a two-component product requiring precise component ratio. Use the entire contents of each drum after mixing. First, stir the base material until uniform and smooth (no more than 2 minutes), then slowly add the curing agent and stir for 3 minutes. A variable-speed power stirrer is recommended. Avoid over-stirring, as this accelerates curing and shortens pot life. High temperatures shorten the mixture’s working life, while low temperatures extend it. Dilution is generally unnecessary. When used as a sealer for old antifouling paint: thoroughly clean with high-pressure fresh water or spray (if needed) to remove antifouling paint residues, and sweep away debris. Repair with specified epoxy paint to achieve complete film thickness, ensuring weak interlayer adhesion areas of old paint are removed. If dilution is required (up to 5% or less), follow local VOC and air quality regulations.
Application
WH-ET172 can be applied by airless spraying, brush, or roller. Ensure good ventilation in confined spaces. Avoid painting in the presence of standing water or rain. For airless spraying, use a pump with a ratio of 64:1 or higher. A 0.53–0.66 mm nozzle with an output pressure of 200 bar and a spray angle of 40°–70° is recommended for optimal results.
Safety Precautions
- Warning: Irritating to eyes and skin. Vapors may cause respiratory allergies in sensitive individuals. May cause skin allergic reactions. Avoid inhaling vapors. Keep away from eyes and skin. Wear protective gear for ears, eyes, and skin. Use a suitable respirator to prevent potential respiratory irritation. Thoroughly wash skin after use. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. In case of respiratory arrest, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and seek immediate medical attention.
- First Aid: In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes, and wash affected skin with soap.
