Intumescent Steel Structure Fireproof Coating

1. Overview

This product is a single-component, thin-film, water-based intumescent fireproof coating designed for steel structures. It combines advanced fire-retardant technology with environmental compatibility, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, particularly in harsh weather conditions. It expands up to 50 times when exposed to fire, forming an insulating char layer that provides up to 2.5 hours of fire resistance (standard fires) or 2.0 hours (hydrocarbon fires).

2. Product Features

  • Exceptional Water Resistance: Maintains integrity without blistering or peeling when exposed to water, enabling outdoor construction during rainy seasons.
  • Superior Fire Retardancy:
    • Ordinary fire resistance: Up to 2.5 hours.
    • Hydrocarbon fire resistance: Up to 2.0 hours.
  • High Expansion Ratio: Expands up to 50 times when heated, forming a dense char layer to inhibit heat transfer.
  • Eco-Friendly: Zero VOC emissions, non-toxic, and releases no harmful gases during combustion.
  • Excellent Workability: Achieves a single-pass dry film thickness of 1.5mm, reducing construction time and costs.

3. Recommended Applications

  • Primary Use: Fire protection for steel columns, beams, supports, floors, and steel profiled sheets in steel structures.
  • Industry Applications: Petrochemical facilities, metallurgical and power industries, civil steel buildings, stadiums, airports, railway stations, shopping malls, and industrial plants.
  • Fire Scenarios: Suitable for both ordinary cellulose fires and special hydrocarbon fires.

5. Application Guidelines

Surface Preparation
  • Ensure the steel substrate is clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, rust, and other contaminants.
  • Apply a compatible primer (e.g., epoxy primer) to enhance adhesion.
Mixing
  • Stir thoroughly until fully homogeneous and free of lumps.
  • If the coating is too thick, dilute with water moderately (excessive water may reduce anti-sag properties and curing efficiency).
Application Methods
  • Brush/Air Spraying: Suitable for small areas or touch-ups.
  • Mortar Spraying (Preferred): Recommended for large-scale projects due to high efficiency (the product contains solid particles and requires no special atomization conditions).
  • Unsuitable Methods: Airless spraying and roller coating.

6. Application Guidelines

Process Flow
Steel structure surface treatment and protection → Coating mixing → First base coat → Layered spraying of non-intumescent fireproof coating (mesh reinforcement recommended for thickness >25mm)
Surface Preparation & Protection
  1. Cleaning: Thoroughly remove dust, rust, and oil from the steel surface. Repair damaged or uncoated areas with two coats of anti-rust paint.
  2. Masking: Protect the construction area (floors, walls, equipment, pipes) with tarpaulin before spraying.
Mixing
  • First Base Coat:
    • Mix ratio: Dry powder : Adhesive : Water = 100 : 30 : 70–80 (by weight).
    • Stir in a mixer: Add water first, then adhesive, then dry powder. Mix for 5–8 minutes until uniform (adjust water content for climate).
  • Subsequent Coats:
    • Mix ratio: Dry powder : Water = 1 : 1 (by weight).
    • Stir thoroughly for 5–8 minutes, adjusting water for consistency.
Spraying
  • First Coat: Spray 2–3mm thickness using a gravity-fed spray gun (nozzle diameter 8–10mm) at 0.6–0.8MPa pressure, held 30–50cm from the surface. Allow full drying before subsequent coats.
  • Subsequent Coats: Spray 8–10mm per layer. Apply the next coat after the previous layer is surface dry. Continue until the required thickness is achieved.
Mesh Reinforcement (for thickness ≥30mm)
  • Fiberglass Mesh: Apply immediately after the second coat, pressing it into the wet coating. Proceed to the third coat after surface drying.
  • Steel Mesh: Pre-install adhesive anchors (16–20 anchors/m²) before construction. Apply the base coat, let it dry, then install the mesh and continue spraying.
Precautions
  • Winter Construction: Stop work at temperatures <5℃. Use greenhouse protection to prevent freezing before the coating cures.

Safety Measures

  • Wear protective gloves, goggles, and a dust mask to avoid skin/eye contact and inhalation of coating particles.
  • Ensure good ventilation during application.
