Application Guidelines
Surface Preparation
- New Steel Substrates: Blast to Sa2.5 standard. Apply a suitable shop primer for temporary protection if needed. Thoroughly clean damaged shop primer and contaminants from storage/processing before painting.
- Smooth Metal Surfaces: Carefully remove grease and other contaminants.
- Maintenance & Repair: Degrease with appropriate cleaners. Remove salts and debris with high-pressure freshwater washing. Remove loose rust and materials via blasting or power tools; grind edges and sweep residues. Repair to achieve full film thickness.
Application Conditions
- Substrates must be dry and clean. Maintain temperature above dew point to prevent condensation (e.g., in poorly ventilated areas like 海底阀 or flat bottoms).
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying.
Topcoating
Apply alkyd, chlorinated rubber, acrylic, or polyurethane coatings as specified for the target area.
Remarks
- Substrates: Smooth metal surfaces and galvanized iron are only suitable for mild corrosion environments.
- Film Thickness: Adjustable based on application purpose and location, affecting spreading rate, drying time, and recoat interval. Normal dry film thickness range: 25–80 μm.
- Recoat Interval (based on 50 μm dry film thickness, 20°C):
Topcoat Type Atmospheric Environment Minimum Recoat Interval Maximum Recoat Interval Alkyd series¹ Mild/Moderate 1 hour/2 hours No limit/3 days Chlorinated rubber, acrylic, polyurethane series² Mild/Moderate 4 hours/6 hours No limit ¹ For white spirit-soluble alkyd paints only. ² For aromatic solvent-soluble chlorinated rubber, acrylic, and polyurethane paints only. - If exceeding the maximum recoat interval, roughen the primer surface before topcoating to ensure inter-coat adhesion.
- Recoating with Epoxy/Polyurethane Paints: Can be topcoated with our company’s epoxy and polyurethane paints, but apply thin films (recommended dry film thickness: 25 μm) to avoid “biting.” Conduct a small-scale test before full application to ensure compatibility. Minimum recoat interval at 20°C: 48 hours; no maximum interval.
Safety Measures
Warning: Causes eye and skin irritation. Vapors may trigger respiratory allergies in sensitive individuals; may cause skin allergic reactions. Avoid inhaling vapors. Keep away from eyes and skin. Use protective gear for eyes, ears, and skin. Use a suitable respirator to prevent potential respiratory irritation. Thoroughly wash skin after use. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. In case of respiratory arrest, perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and seek immediate medical attention.
First Aid: In case of eye contact, flush with 清水 (clean water) for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes; wash affected skin with soap.
