1. Product Application
WANNATE® IT-170MX is used as a curing component for non-yellowing polyurethane coatings and as an additive resin for alkyd spray paints.
As a curing agent in non-yellowing two-component polyurethane coatings, WANNATE® IT-170MX offers excellent chemical resistance, weatherability, outstanding gloss retention and superior mechanical properties. Due to its high hardness, it is usually blended with WANNATE® HT series products. Its co-reactants are flexible polyacrylate polyols and polyester polyols.
Two-component coatings based on WANNATE® IT-170MX are mainly used in automotive OEM coatings and automotive refinish coatings. Thanks to its excellent physical drying performance, it is also used as an auxiliary resin in alkyd spray coatings to accelerate drying. Such coatings are mainly applied in automotive refinish and industrial coatings.

4. Storage and Handling Precautions
Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. Keep away from incompatible materials and food containers. Store in the original container and keep it tightly sealed. No smoking, open flames or ignition sources. Protect containers from physical damage.
Avoid contact with water, alcohols, strong bases, metal compounds or detergent solutions. This material reacts with water to generate excessive foam, carbon dioxide and heat. Foaming in a confined space may cause pressure build-up. Isocyanates may corrode and embrittle certain plastics and rubbers.
WANNATE® IT-170MX can be diluted with polar solvents such as esters, ketones and ether esters (e.g. butyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, propylene glycol methyl ether acetate) and aromatic hydrocarbons. It generally shows good compatibility with the above solvents, but storage stability of the prepared solution should be verified. Only urethane-grade solvents (water content < 0.05%, free of reactive groups such as hydroxyl and amino groups) shall be used.
Stable solutions with a minimum solid content of 20% can be prepared by diluting WANNATE® IT-170MX with xylene, toluene or high-boiling aromatic hydrocarbons such as naphtha 100 or aromatic hydrocarbon blends. Aliphatic solvents should be avoided if extended storage stability of the diluted solution is required. However, WANNATE® IT-170MX is compatible with aliphatic solvents to a certain extent, so it can be incorporated into coating systems containing aliphatic solvents.
5. Compatibility
In general, WANNATE® IT-170MX is compatible with the following products:
- Aliphatic polyisocyanates (e.g. WANNATE® HT-100, HB-100)
- Aromatic polyisocyanates
- Polyester polyols
- Polyacrylates
- Alkyd resins
Compatibility testing is mandatory before blending.
6. Shelf Life
This product is sensitive to moisture. The shelf life is 6 months when stored in the original sealed container under cool and dry conditions at 0–30 °C.
General information:
- Storage above 30 °C may cause an increase in viscosity and color number.
- Storage below 0 °C may lead to crystal precipitation. Such solidification is reversible by brief heating and does not affect product quality.
